Author Illustrator Fair
November 16, 2024
The Orion Children's Author Illustrator Fair is a long-standing (22 years!), cherished school tradition. This annual event introduces curious minds to children's books authors and illustrators as well as the process of creating a book, and is designed to be an inspiration to our next generation of authors, illustrators, and book lovers! There will be a little something for everyone (including bilingual authors/illustrators who write and speak in both English and Mandarin or Spanish) so come one, come all and bring your friends on Saturday, November 16, 11 am - 3:30 pm.

Leading up to the event, each of our classrooms is assigned an author and/or illustrator. In partnership with teachers and parent volunteers, the students learn about their assigned author/illustrator, read their book(s), do a related experiential learning project, and create a work-of-art banner inspired by what they've learned that will decorate the fair and be gifted to their author/illustrator at the end. The authors/illustrators then come to our school for one exciting day, free and open to the public, where we have books for sale, signings, presentations, workshops, and readings (anyone can attend any of the Fair events, but children who studied an author/illustrator may be especially excited to meet them).

We have an amazing lineup of authors/illustrators this year: Maha Kadafour, Holly Ayala, Charlotte Cheng, Ariane and Todd Erickson, Vicky Fang, Elisa Kleven, Katrina Liu, Tim McCanna, Dave Fribush, Oliver Chin, Graciela Tiscareño-Sato and Linda Lens, Traci Huahn (who will make a during-the-week visit due to a conflict on November 16th), Jennifer Gennari, Nicole Chen, and Misa Sugiura.
